Another extraordinary promotion
Following hard on the heels of our previous comment on the meteoric rise of one lady from the Carribean, Baroness Scotland our Attorney-General, another curious appointment has come into public view recently – that of the black ex-American writer Bonnie Greer. She was disclosed on the Question Time programme as deputy Chairman of the British Museum, arguably the most important museum in the whole world, certainly one of the top three.
It is pertinent to ask what qualifications Ms Greer has for this post which gives the holder opportunty to make major inputs into British Museum policy, including buying and disposal decisions. If open to public competition, this post would be one of the most expertly contested of all publicly funded positons. We have to enquire because as far as is known neither the post itself, nor the required qualifications, nor job description were advertised in the usual media.
