Readers of Britain Watch may recall the article of a year ago (27/5/09) called Conservative claims of being able to recover significant powers from Europe are simply wrong.  David Cameron has now, despite the Conservative campaign claims, found this to be true.  Indeed George Osborne, the new Chancellor, has found after a fortnight that it is impossible even to head off a draft European Directive on hedge funds, which the Conservatives during the recent election campaign, vowed to fight alongside recovery of those “significant powers”.
